You may know of the importance of having security cameras in your home but what makes for the best security camera system? Knowing how many cameras to have in your home, where to place them and how to optimize their usage can take your home security to the next level. Here are four tips to consider when creating the best home security camera system.

1. The optimal amount of security cameras to have in a home.

This always depends on what the customer would like to see or protect. Each home's layout will impact the coverage any given camera provides. For some homes, one camera in a highly trafficed area can be more than enough. In others, multiple cameras per room may be required. We recommend and in-person consultation with one of our skilled security experts to assess the best set up for your home. And don't forget, you can always add more cameras to your system down the road.

2. The best places in your home to install your cameras.

When installing inside cameras, placement is very important. Getting maximum coverage from any given security camera can optimize their usage. For this reason, cameras should be placed in generally common areas, like safe rooms, family rooms, living rooms, kitchens and/or basements. These are all general areas to give you the most coverage without taking away privacy

3. The worst places in your home to instal your cameras.

Bedrooms and bathrooms, unless the home is vacant or unoccupied or there’s extreme value in that area. Why? For privacy issues. Good camera systems are watching 24/7 and it's obvious why you wouldn't want a camera rolling in these rooms non-stop.

4. Home security cameras systems can be used for more than burglary detection.

There are plenty of uses for a camera other than criminal activity. You can check-in live to make sure the kids arrived home from school on time, check on an elderly relative, or make sure your pet is behaving.  If you travel, having a camera inside also helps in keeping a remote view on things let a petsitter or housekeeper.
