When you think of summer, is swimming one of the first activities that comes to mind? Swimming is one of the most popular summer activities as it allows you to have a fun time while also being able to cool off from the hot summer sun. As fun as swimming can be, it is also very dangerous. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention drowning is the 5th leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States.

If you have a home pool, there are many different security precautions that you may want to consider in order to keep the children and pool area safe.

  1. Install a Fence: A fence around the pool area will protect children and animals from getting in/out, whichever they aren’t supposed to be doing. It also provides a sense of safety and peace of mind for parents if they are allowing their kids to play outside but don’t want them leaving a certain area.
  1. Install Gate Contacts: Installing gate contacts allows you to be aware when someone is entering and exiting the premise of your pool area. It allows added security knowing that you will be notified if the gates are opened when they aren’t supposed to.
  1. Install Water Level Detectors: Water Level Detectors will help you prevent flooding and filter damage.
  1. Install Outdoor Video Surveillance: Installing outdoor video surveillance will help you monitor the vicinity of your pool even when you’re not around.
  1. Make sure you have a sturdy pool cover: Having a sturdy pool cover prevents unsupervised children, animals, outsiders from getting in. Flimsy pool covers could cave in if something were to fall on them, causing someone to suffocate or drown.

 Quick Tips:

  1. Supervise the pool area
  2. Enforce Rules
  3. Keep a tidy pool area
  4. Require life jackets for children not able to swim on their own
  5. Look into swim lessons for your children
