J. Gregory Doyle, the longtime President and owner of Doyle Security Systems, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2015. From 1957 through 1986, J. Gregory – better known as Greg – helped usher in an era of growth and diversification for an already storied company. While his loss brings great sadness to the Doyle Security Systems family, it also reminds us of the lasting achievements he accomplished both professionally and personally that deserve prideful celebration.
Like many family members before him, Greg was involved in the family business throughout his teen years, performing a variety of office jobs and security field work. After his graduation from the Aquinas Institute in Rochester, NY, Greg joined the United States Air Force for four years. One of those years was spent touring with the Tops in Blue, a performance ensemble made up entirely of active duty members of the U.S. Air Force.
Following his years of service, Greg officially joined Doyle Security Systems in 1957, representing the 3rd generation of Doyle family ownership. Armed with strong values, exceptional leadership abilities and the motivation to grow the company, Greg quickly helped Doyle Security Systems expand throughout Western New York. By 1967, Doyle Security Systems had opened new offices in Buffalo and Syracuse, NY and later expanded to Erie, PA. The company’s growth was not only represented in geographic expansion however. In the 30 years of Greg’s Presidency, the alarm systems division of the company flourished, helping to pave the way for the strong services we offer today. In fact, the business grew so successfully during his tenure that – along with the three new branches – Doyle Security Systems twice had to change its corporate headquarters in Rochester in order to accommodate the growth.
In 1986, Greg officially sold Doyle Security Systems to his son, current President John Doyle. Greg also got to witness the professional arrival to Doyle Security Systems of his grandson Jack, who represents the 5th generation of Doyle family employment with the company. Thanks in large part to Greg’s work and leadership, John and Jack inherited a company with a sterling reputation among customers and peers, an inspired staff and a brand recognizable through Western New York. Greg served as Chairman of the Board for Doyle Security Systems following his tenure as President.
Along with his work for Doyle Security Systems, Greg also founded Matt Talbot Ministries in 1983, where he served as its Executive Director. In that same year, he was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church and used his guidance to help individuals who suffered from a wide variety of addictions. His passion for helping others led countless people to a place of peace and clarity.
Greg is remembered fondly by family, friends and colleagues as a remarkable man. The lasting success of both Doyle Security Systems and Matt Talbot Ministries will always stand as reminders of his professional acumen, but it is the glowing testimonials about his character that truly define J. Gregory Doyle.
